Just came across these two free apps that would be a godsend for many administrators and wanted to share them both with you guys. (and gals)

The first is a full featured software\hardware inventory app. and is my favorite of the two. Goto http://www.lansweeper.com/ls/default.aspx and take a look. The online demo looks great. This product is well worth contributing a few bucks to these guys. I have been looking at programs that cost hundreds that do the same thing.

The second is one that use to be a pay for app but has recently gone freeware. It is called OrgFinder and can be found here...http://www.orgfinder.com/

It is a very nice web front end to enable your users to search AD. So far I have only been able to find some kludgey scripts to do the same thing and none of them look as good.

Well, hope someone finds them useful.

Michael

PS, the Orgfinder signup and download page does not work with Firefox, I had to use IE to enter in my info and then go to the download page.

Tim,

I was looking for a low cost but effective security scanner for my windows infrastructure and was amazed at how much Retina cost. It was something like ten grand. I ended up purchasing the SNSI product from Sunbelt Software. I have been very happy with it. Support is top notch and updates are constant. The scans are fast and easy to read and reporting is nice too.

I know nessus is free but I'm not quite the linux geek yet to get that up and running. The one thing that did bug me about nessus, at least when I used was that it would spot the vulnerability but didn't offer anything on how to remedy it. SNSI does that very well.

Take care guys and have a great weekend.

Thank you very much for the links!

I HATE bashing any company, but if you have not purchased anything from EEYE, DONT!! If you are considering purchasing anything from them, please feel free to contact me direct. I have wasted an entire week trying to get RETINA working due to license activation issues, only to find that the version we have is no longer supported and they will not allow us to upgrade to the newer version.

Mark, so far Ethereal appears to provide everything IRIS ever did and the savings are HUGE! Thanks for that link as well!!

This looks excellent - a Fresh Diagnose for networks. I have been looking for a tool to do this for some time.

Thanks for the information

Hi Eric,

Glad to help. Hope it works out for you. I am just now getting it up in my test lab. You'll have to let me know what your experiences are with it.
