Juvenile black racer
Black racers are among the largest snakes we've got in southeastern Virginia. They're not poisonous and they eat lots of things that I'm quite happy to do without, so they're all good news as far as I'm concerned. This juvenile is NOT black because they're colored to look like a little water moccasin. They even shake their tails as if they had rattles (not that the moccasin has them).
